Cellphones at Daybreak Middle School
Our staff are aware of the benefits of cell phones as a useful tool, as well as the distraction they can be to the learning environment and the easy access they present to cyberbullying. With that in mind, we have a RED, YELLOW, GREEN cell phone policy at DBM.
Please talk with your student about managing their phone appropriately at school. Students should not be texting, videoing, or calling from their phones while at school. Students can come to the office to call parents if needed. If you need to contact your child please call the office at 360-885-6900 and we will relay the message to them for you. While we are all in the habit of sending a quick text, we ask that parents call the office instead of texting their student. Receiving a text or call in the middle of class disrupts the learning environment for them and their peers.
Students who use cell phones/ear buds outside of the RED, YELLOW, GREEN system during the school day are in violation of school rules. We give lots of reminders at the beginning of the school year but students are responsible to know the rules. If students choose not to follow the rules we will follow these steps: The first violation will result in having phone/earbuds confiscated and held in the office for pick up at the end of the day by the student. The second violation will result in confiscating the phone/earbuds and a parent will need to pick it up. The third violation requires the student and parents to meet with administration to review expectations and determine whether the student needs to leave their phone at home or check it into the office each day upon arrival. Repeated and/or serious incidents will be grounds for disciplinary action. Cell phones & ear buds need to be in the student's backpack before entering the building and while transitioning in the hallways. No electronic devices are allowed in the bathrooms, cafeteria or at recess.
