Starting fall 2023, teachers will use new books and lessons to teach social studies and help students develop their social and emotional skills.
The new social studies materials will be used in fifth, sixth and eighth grades. Seventh graders will learn about Washington state history.
The updated, age-appropriate materials focused on students’ social and emotional learning will be used in kindergarten through eighth grade.
Over the past year, a committee of parents, guardians, teachers and community members has evaluated the new materials and recommended the following curricula. You can now review the recommended materials and provide your input.
Social studies
Fifth grade: Savvas
Sixth grade: National Geographic, Savaas or TCI (to be narrowed down after May 4)
Eighth grade: TCI
Social and emotional learning
Kindergarten through eighth grade: Character Strong
The recommended curricula will be presented to the school board on May 22, and the board will vote on the final curricula on June 12.
