Teacher appreciation week

Battle Ground Public Schools is celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week. This year, we asked our school communities to share some thoughts about some of their favorite teachers. Well over 100 of you took the time to participate! Below are the comments we received, organized by school. Some responses have been edited for brevity.

Amboy Middle School

“Mrs. Amy Agren (6th grade) truly cares for her students! I sincerely feel like we are a team helping my son reach his full potential! Plus he enjoys going to school. Bonus!!” – Joni S.

“Jennifer Krutka (special education) is an incredibly dedicated, gifted, innovative, and awesome teacher. She goes above and beyond to ensure that her students have the necessary tools and support to reach their maximum potential. She stays extra hours to build individualized plans for each student’s education. She has the patience of a Saint and is a huge force for good and growth. We are profoundly grateful to Amboy Middle School hiring her, and to her for her outstanding dedication as a teacher, role model, and great inspiration to our son and to all of us to never give up, to always have a sense of humor in life, and to believe in all people, no matter what challenges they face. “Mr. Mike Strever (special education) is always available to help out kiddos who are struggling. He has a way of talking to them and making them feel safe and understood. It’s important to make our students feel safe, and he has a charm.” – Teri K.

“Mrs. Tamra Galles, the ceramics teacher at Battle Ground High School, is very creative and an inspiration to her students! My daughter says she is awesome!” – Joni S.

“Mrs. Amanda Fulfer (history) has been the most dedicated and inspiring teacher our kids have had at Battle Ground High School. She is a gem. Her extraordinary efforts during COVID neutralized the impact of distance learning. I cannot thank her enough for how she can foster independent thinking and confidence in our children while being a great role model for educating.” – J. Metzger

Battle Ground Virtual Academy

“Sarah Harrier (K-2, Battle Ground Virtual Academy) was warm and welcoming to my child as well as myself. She is an excellent teacher. Everyday, my daughter wakes up and is excited for school. She wants to make her teacher proud. Mrs. Harrier has made the transition from homeschool to BGVA straightforward. We are grateful to have Mrs. Harrier as a teacher.” – Erika R.

“Ashley Mountain (high school English, BGVA) has done so much to change my child’s school experience since she started last year. Ms. Mountain has gone above and beyond, getting to know my daughter’s learning style, her strengths and her weaknesses, cheering her on in all aspects of her life, being stern when necessary, guiding all the while. There is not enough things I can say to show my absolute gratitude for the positivity she has brought into my daughter’s life!” – Lori W.

“Dana Hart (high school history/math, BGVA) quickly became one of my daughter’s favorite teachers. She has spent so much extra time making sure that my daughter understands and passes her math lessons, even if she is not assigned as her teacher. She has become one of my daughter’s biggest cheerleaders in all of her life adventures.” – Lori W.

CAM Academy

“Mrs. Angela Borges, a 6th grade teacher at CAM academy, is a sweet, kind and caring teacher. She acknowledged that my daughter has struggled socially and academically and has not hesitated to contact us to come together and figure out how she and the staff can help my daughter succeed. I truly appreciate Mrs. Borges’ dedication as a teacher and the support she has offered us and our daughter. I can’t thank her enough for everything she has done.” – Tami F.

“Ms. Tiffany Vidovic (SEL room) has changed my son’s educational experience. She is patient, caring and engaged. Her rapport with him has him wanting to go to school, feeling safe and wanted. These should be how kids feel always.” – Lindsay H.

“Mrs. Samantha Ingram (kindergarten) is always so sweet, calm and willing to help with my child’s needs. She goes above and beyond.” – Emily S.

“Mrs. Cinda Trigueros (third grade) is the best teacher ever. I wish I were in her class. She values the classroom community and fosters student-to-teacher relationships, as well as student-to-student learning. Mrs. T excels at making school fun and including parents as much as possible. She celebrates successes of the individuals and the group. Her pride is contagious and I feel connected to the achievements of her class.” – Erica V.

“Mrs. Toni Brammer (kindergarten) is an inspiration for her preparation and organization. Her hard work allows her to adapt to student learning needs and find time to hold gratitude for the smallest things. When our family dog passed, we received a kind note. When we gave her a Valentine goodie, we received a thank you card. She is the epitome of professionalism and grace.” – Erica V.

“Ms. Julie Davis (first grade) believed in my son’s potential. She never stopped trying new things to figure out the best way he learns.” – Tayler V.

Chief Umtuch Middle School

“Bryan Moxley (fifth grade ELA/history) is an amazing teacher. He works hard to make connections with his students and see them as themselves. My son loves coming to school and being in Mr. Moxley’s room. We are both so thankful for him and what he does.” – Wendy H.

“Danielle Armstrong (band) holds the kids to high expectations in class, holds them accountable to practice at home, challenges them to do hard things and expects great behavior at their performances. And the kids love band with her! Thanks for all the hard work you put in Danielle, it truly makes a difference!” – Molly S.

Daybreak Middle School

“Teresa Edmiston (fifth grade) sends hand-written postcards to the her students, highlighting their academic and behavioral accomplishments throughout the school year. This consistent recognition and encouragement means so much to her students.” – Bree S.

“Miss Jasmine Ross (kindergarten) is a great teacher she has done so much work with my son.” – Tammy S.

“The SECOND my son met Ms. Carlie Young (first grade) I could immediately see relief on his face. Now, he cannot wait to get to school to see her. His attitude towards school totally changed this year, and I know it’s because of the security, safety, and love Ms. Young gives her students.” – Allie W.

“Mrs. Young has been so helpful taking care of my daughter as she battled anxiety. Now, she loves school again and wishes she could stay forever in Mrs. Young’s class! Thank you for being so wonderful!” – Tayla R.

“Mrs. Lisel Johnson (third grade) is the kindest teacher! She is patient, so sweet, and always has hugs to give my daughter – even though they are no longer in her classroom. She always has a smile on her face and is warm and talks with parents. She made my daughter AND me feel heard whenever either of us came to her with thoughts/concerns. We just absolutely adore her. ” – Shelly M.

“Ms. Johnson has been my son’s strength and guidance this year as he navigates 3rd grade. Her witty sense of humor is something he enjoys. Her patience for him is unmatched and she has worked hard to make him feel like he belongs in her room. We are so grateful for Ms Johnson at Daybreak Primary!” – Jess A.

“Mrs. Tasha Alekseyeva (kindergarten) is the type of teacher that any parent would want for their child when being introduced to school. She is a warm-demander; she holds a safe place and forms caring relationships with her students but, at the same time, she holds high expectations and helps them learn those tough lessons. We could not be more grateful for the positive impact Mrs. A has made on our daughter’s growth, both as a person and as a learner.” – Kelsey B.

“Mrs. Sharon Foster (first grade) has helped my daughter grow leaps and bounds this school year. She is always pushing her to do more and learn more and it shows!! A big big thank you to her. She is an amazing teacher and we sure appreciate all she does, whether it be writing postcards and letters, or helping my daughter to learn and to grow. THANK YOU!” – Kate B.

“Mrs. Chelsea Milauskas (Transitional Kindergarten) has been an amazing teacher for my son. She has taught him so much in the education department, but what stands out the most is how much she has taught respect, kindness, and school manners (sitting still, quiet, etc). I was nervous to send him at first, but I am so glad I did- he doesn’t want to miss a day of seeing his teachers!! Thank you!!!” – Kate B.

“Mrs. Milauskas is a dream come true for a parent and student. Her TK class runs like a finely tuned machine and her students find comfort and confidence in her teaching style. She is the perfect guide into primary school’s routines and expectations. All while loving the children individually as her own and pouring faith, passion and pride into each one. My son started TK in the fall as a non-verbal student and, thanks Mrs. Milauskas and the team at Daybreak, he started 2024 with full speech, exceeding expectations. Our family is so grateful for the opportunity to have Mrs. Milauskas for TK and will continue to sing her praises!” – Aleigha D.

“Carissa Dahl (preschool). We appreciate her positivity, kindness, prompt response times, interest in her students, and willingness to address parental concerns. She has many fun, educational ideas for the kids. My child is excited to go to school thanks, in large part, to her leadership.” – Kristen C.

Glenwood Heights Primary

“I am very grateful for all our teachers. This year was excellent with Mrs. Brittany Popiel (Transitional Kindergarten)! Thank you tremendously for providing excellent experiences to my son. He was encouraged and nurtured in the ways that best suited him. The journey we’ve had with BGPS has been consistently excellent, and we are happy that Mrs P fit right! “Ms. Allison Bloemke (kindergarten) is an incredible teacher. She goes above and beyond for her students to make sure they are enjoying their day and learning a lot. She has always been great about communicating with me about any concerns she has with my son and I feel like I can reach out to her as well.” – Danielle A.

“Mrs. Linda Maddex (kindergarten) is the most caring, patient, encouraging, fun-loving kindergarten teacher anyone could ask for! My family is more than happy to have her teach and help guide our child! She’s is one of the best!” – Alycia R.

“Mrs. Maddex makes my child feel confident, comfortable, and successful in herself and her ability to learn. She has made my daughter’s first school experience nothing but positive. So much so, that she wants to be a teacher ‘JUST like Mrs. Maddex!’ one day.” – Esperanza W.

“Ms. Brynn Cunningham (second grade) is a wonderful teacher for my son. He was having a hard time going to school and I reached out to Ms. C. She was so helpful and encouraging and went out of her way to make my son feel welcomed at school and that she was happy he was there. It made all the difference. Thanks Ms. C! “Mrs. Alicia Lin (third grade) is AMAZING!! She is so supportive of her students and does everything she can to hype them up. She keeps parents in the loop about everything as well, which I love. Mrs. Lin deserves all the gold stars for making my daughter feel like she belongs, and continuing to care for her so much, even after she moved on to the 4th grade. Thank you for showing so much compassion towards your students and helping them feel like they belong!” – Heather C.

“There are so many wonderful moments my daughter has expressed about Mrs. Lisa Webb (fourth grade) this year. During this 4th grade year, my daughter’s confidence and capabilities have grown tremendously. We are forever grateful for the encouragement and love that was delivered throughout our time at Glenwood, but most importantly this phenomenal year with Lisa Webb. “Mrs. Bachman is full of charisma, is as kind as a human can be and is doing a damn good job rivaling ME as my daughter’s biggest hype person/fan! The love and support she shows is beyond what I thought was capable for a teacher and I appreciate this more than she will ever know!” – Jerry R.

“Mr. Greg Bernash (fifth grade) is funny, caring, smart, and super inspiring. He’s great at solving problems between students. He also makes good jokes.” – Amelia K.

“Monica Moreland (6th grade ELA and History ) has been an amazing, supportive and encouraging teacher to my daughter. She has her student’s best interests at heart and goes the extra mile to ensure they feel seen, safe and appreciated!” – Lindsay G.

“Mr. Casey Rogalette (sixth grade) has always been one of my daughter’s favorite teachers. She says he’s always making her laugh or putting a smile on her face. He has mastered making middle school age kids enjoy being taught which is nothing short of a miracle.” – Jerry R.

“Mr. Rogalette is one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. He was awesome and promoted having fun and learning at the same time. I made so many good memories in that class, like playing fun games, watching Bill Nye, and just in general having awesome times with awesome teachers. He told us on the last day of school that he really loved his students, and that made all of us tear up on that last day. He is truly an awesome dude who really deserves respect at this school, because he is one awesome teacher.” – Parker L.

“Ashley Gibbons (SEL room) cares so much about her students. She provides snacks for them because they may just be hungry and cannot pay attention in class.” – Bev J.

“Leslie Meinschein (preschool) has gone out of her way to expose our son to new experiences at school. He loves their trips to the school cafeteria, attendance office, and all over. It is obvious she cares about her students and her intuition for what individual students need deserves recognition.” – Matthew D.

“Mrs. Jennifer Moyer (kindergarten) is the very first teacher I’ve ever had and I miss her when I have a visitor/substitute. Thank you for helping me with my math.” – Mason M. (student)

“A favorite memory I have was with Mrs. Julie Dyer (kindergarten). We heard a knock at the door and she went to check to see who it was. It wasn’t anyone, but it was a package. At the time it was Christmas, so it was wrapped. She said, ‘maybe if you’re good we can open it soon.’ A couple weeks later she decided to open it. After multiple layers of wrapping paper, we finally got our Brand new PLAYDOH!!! We were so EXCITED!!!! She let us play with it at the end of the day for the rest of the year.” – Mikayla B.

“Jolyn deBra (first grade) is a wonderful teacher. She shows compassion for not only my child, but all of her students. She is an excellent communicator and is always willing to go the extra mile to help her students succeed. We adore her and who she is as a teacher.” – Haley M.

“My girls are identical twins and they love that Mrs. Promise Nusbaum (kindergarten) makes them feel special as individuals. Both of them said they love how kind and goofy Mrs. N is. She makes learning really fun!” – Dayjah J.

“Jess Garnett (fourth grade) has really expanded my daughter’s critical thinking skills through his in depth curriculum. He goes above and beyond his job as a teacher. My child was struggling with some self-confidence issues at the beginning of the year due to a lot of changes at home; but with Mr. Garnett’s assistance and attention to detail, she was able rediscover her confidence. She is now a part of the leadership group at Maple Grove and is more confident than ever in her leadership skills and intelligence.” – Megan S.

“Mr. David Harding (first grade) likes to call his students ‘little professionals,’ but he is the true professional teacher. I came into the class to volunteer during a literacy unit and observed him reading a story to the students. He did not simply read the story but instead made it an incredibly engaging and enriching experience. Each kid listened eagerly and participated at each prompt. One of the students had asked a question about something in the story, and, rather than simply answering their question, he sat down the book and allowed the whole class to work together to figure out the answer to this question. This is how he approached every aspect of the day. Exploration and hands-on learning through empowering his students to question, hypothesize, experiment, fail, and ultimately succeed.” – Sandra L.

“Jessica Brown (second grade) is amazing at communicating what is happening in the classroom. She sends weekly newsletters and additional direct messages when needed. She’s very responsive and attentive when we reach out to her. And she encourages students to always try their best. My daughter really enjoys having her as her teacher!” – Denise H.

“Melissa Kennedy (second grade) is an extremely talented teacher who brings warmth, joy, and love to her classroom as well as each of her students. My son has said on numerous occasions how he never wants to leave the second grade and how she is the best teacher! I see her passion for teaching each time I volunteer within the classroom and her ability to make every kid feel welcome, confident, and loved. Not only is she an incredible teacher within the classroom but she’s also the kind of teacher who shows up on a rainy Saturday to watch your kid’s soccer game!” – Sandra L.

“Mrs. Marina Heinz (fourth grade) has such a positive attitude and classroom culture that have helped my son enjoy coming to school every day! She doesn’t only spread cheer in her classroom, she can be found every day walking the halls and sidewalks saying hello to all students she passes by. “Stu Gannon (fifth grade) is a gem of a teacher. He has made the transition to middle school such a positive experience for my son. He is excited to go to school everyday and I know that is because of the classroom community that Mr. Gannon has created. He treats all students with respect and makes them feel valued. His classroom is a balance between fun, while having high expectations for his students. After volunteering in his class and on field trips, we leave with the feeling that he truly loves his job and his students.” – Lindsey R.

“Mrs. Deanna Recinos is so on top of things. Her weekly emails are on time, we get a heads up for every week and every event. She’s quick to answer any questions. She’s very kind, patient and creative. My kids love her art projects. We’re so blessed to be in her class.” – Halina P.

“Mrs. Recinos is one of the most patient people I know. You can truly tell she wants the kids to keep the wonder of learning. She teaches multiple grades at once and is great at the juggling act. “I have had the opportunity to be a parent volunteer in Mrs. Melinda Beachell’s kindergarten class this year. I am amazed every time I’m there by how organized she is, how she’s able to defuse any situation and keep the kids focused — all while still showing love and patience. I can tell the kids adore her. I’m so thankful for all of the teachers, teaching the students each and every day- and especially thankful for Mrs. Beachell!” – Jane L.
