At the Dec. 9, 2024, board of directors meeting, Chief Financial Officer Michelle Scott presented the 2023-24 year-end financial report.

Takeaways for the year include:

  • Student enrollment increased from the 2022-23 school year by 198 full-time equivalent students. The biggest increases were in alternative learning experiences and special education.

  • 2023-24 marked the end of pandemic recovery funding, resulting in a $7 million reduction in revenue for BGPS in 2024-25.

  • The district spent $2.1 million in continuing curriculum adoptions.

  • Revenue into the district’s general fund equaled $221.08 million. State funding provides about 77% of the revenue. Local levy funding pays for educational programs and operations not fully funded by the state.

  • Expenditures equaled $221.26 million, with some purchased services such as utilities and insurance being over budget.

  • BGPS used all of its unassigned fund balance ($4.08 million) for ongoing operations. This depleted the unassigned, or so-called rainy day funds.

  • State funding is not keeping up with rising costs. Adjusted for inflation, the state now spends less per student than in 2018.

The district reports actual spending for each fiscal year to the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction. This report, called the F-196, is available as a PDF
